Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain,
‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.Nothing will be impossible for you.
Matthew 17:20 (NIV)
As churches within the ICOC fellowship began dreaming about the next decade and trying to come up with their 2020 vision, the leadership of the SEA Region joined together and asked, “Where do we want our family of Southeast Asian churches (SEA Churches) to be by 2020?” We were happy with the mission statement inaugurated in the early part of the millennium:
We Gather Here to Know God and Make God Known, but how could that translate into a 10-year goal? After praying and seeking advice, we invited Ben Rasberry to come to Singapore. Ben is a consultant who is an expert in building vision, and met with our staff and lay leaders from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan and Korea. He taught us many principles of building vision and setting goals, and referred us to an article by Jim Collins about putting together a Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal (BHAG). In fact, since we were doing it for God, Ben called it a Big HOLY Audacious Goal! We took another month to pray, read, meditate, and brainstorm. We wanted our BHAG to be something that would be impossible without God. Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
So, after much prayer and planning, our BHAG is:
By 2020, the SEA Region churches will Double in a Dozen Ways
Take a look at some of the details of our BHAG in the embedded slideshow below. Then, turn up the volume as you watch our Youth Ministry (beginning with our older teens and ending with our preteens) learn about and discuss their Vision for 2020.
